Michał Rot
A graduate of the Academy of Music. G. and K. Bacewicz in Łódź, he graduated with distinction in 2012 in the piano class of Prof. Cezary Sanecki. Additionally, he improved his skills at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart, piano class of Prof. Andrzej Ratusiński and the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Mannheim, chamber music class of Prof. Michael Flaksman and Prof. Jelena Očić.
The artist is a laureate of many national and international music competitions. The most important achievements are: Honorable Mention at the Chopin Competition. On Kędry in Łódź, 2nd Prize and a Special Prize for the best performance of a contemporary Polish piece at the 17th International Chamber Competition in Łódź, Award for the best pianist at the 18th International Kędry Competition in Łódź. J. Brahms in Pörtschach and the 4th Prize and a Special Prize at the 4th International Duo Competition. R. Strauss in Sofia.
Meetings with great personalities of the musical world had a significant impact on the pianist’s artistic development. He worked under the supervision of: Paul Badura – Skoda, Andrzej Jasiński, Elza Kolodin, Dang Thai – Son, Jonathan Zak, Jose Gallardo, Eduardo Hubert, Peter Efler, Paul Gulda, Victor Chestopal and many others.
Michał Rot conducts lively concert activities in Poland and abroad. He has performed at many music festivals such as: Ascoli Piceno Festival, Gaude Mater, Muzyka na Szczytach, Karol Szymanowski Music Days, LEO Festival, Heidelberger Kammermusikfestival, Mieczysław Wajnberg NOSPR Days, Polish Radio Chopin Festival, Presentations – Żelazowa Wola, Mendelssohn Music Days, Harmonies Old Town, Opus Magnum, Quarantine in Hi-Fi at RDC, Kubinska Hudobna Jesen, Chopin in the colors of autumn, Viennese Music Festival, Polish Song Festival, Przemyśl Music Autumn, Silesian Festival. As a soloist, he collaborated with the following orchestras: NFM Wrocław Philharmonic, Szczecin Philharmonic, Opole Philharmonic, Lower Silesian Philharmonic, Częstochowa Philharmonic, Kalisz Philharmonic, NFM Leopoldinum Orchestra, Sinfonietta Cracovia, Polish Camerata Chamber Orchestra.
The artist has performed many times in the most important concert halls in Poland: the National Philharmonic, the National Forum of Music, the seat of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Polish Baltic Philharmonic, the Philharmonics of Krakow, Opole, Łódź, Częstochowa, Kalisz, Lower Silesia, Podkarpacie, Zielona Góra and other important cultural institutions, among others. .among others at the Grand Theater in Łódź, Studio S1 of the Polish Radio, ECMKP in Lusławice, the “Atma” Museum in Zakopane, Studio of the Polish Radio. He collaborated with outstanding musicians: Michael Flaksman, Justus Grimm, Ernst Kovacic, Joseph Swensen, Agata Szymczewska, Volodia Mykytka, Roberto Trainini, Natan Dondalski, Mathieu Romano, Lionel Sow, Jerzy Salwarowski, Christian Danowicz, Robert Kowalski, Daniel Raiskin, Tomasz Daroch, Barbara Karaśkiewicz, Jelena Očić, Krzysztof Karpeta (Reger Duo), Piotr Tarcholik, Andrzej Kosendiak, Radosław Pujanek, Aleksandra Szwejkowska – Belica.
Since 2016, he has been constantly collaborating with cellist Wojciech Fudala. FudalaRot Duo is active in concerts and has received a creative scholarship from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage for the promotion of culture.
Vocal lyricism is the pianist’s area of fascination. Since 2007, he has been creating a chamber duet with his wife Joanna Rot (mezzo-soprano), under the artistic supervision of the outstanding Polish singer Urszula Kryger for several years. Later, the artists studied with the pianist Ulrich Eisenlohr in Mannheim and the world-famous baritone Olaf Bär in Dresden (2010-2014). The duo actively performs in Poland and abroad.
The artist collaborated with renowned singers: Baruch Finkelstein, Szymon Komasa, Bartłomiej Misiuda, Katarzyna Haras, Bernadetta Grabias, Karina Skrzeszewska, Stanisław Kierner, Anna Lichorowicz, Ziemowit Wojtczak.
The pianist has made many recordings: “Winterreise” by Fr. Schubert (DUX) with baritone Stanisław Kierner; “Song of the Earth” (Polish Radio) with violinist Aleksandra Szwejkowska – Belica; “Reger Duo plays Yagling” (DUX) containing the world premiere of Victoria Yagling’s works recorded together with cellist Krzysztof Karpeta; “Jan Novak. Chamber music” (DUX) with pianist Marcin Kasprzyk; “Rachmaninov. Suites for two pianos. Works for piano trio” (Divine Art) with pianist Barbara Karaśkiewicz; as well as three albums nominated for the Fryderyk award: “Paderewski, Koczalski, Szymanowski. Songs” (DUX) with baritone Stanisław Kierner; and also in the FudalaRot Duo formation: “Mieczysław Wajnberg. Sonatas for cello and piano” (DUX) and in 2023: “Transfiguration. Szymanowski, Clarke, Bloch” (DUX).
The artist received a scholarship from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage for outstanding achievements in the field of music. In March 2021, he received the title of habilitated doctor of arts, and works as an assistant professor at the Academy of Music. G. and K. Bacewicz in Łódź.
